The Big Barn is located in Weirmarsh just outside Umberleigh in North Devon. Umberleigh is a pretty village in the heart of rural Devon and surrounded by the unspoilt countryside of the Taw Valley.

The River Taw (famous for its connection to Tarka the Otter) is less than a 300m walk from the holiday cottage and the villages of Umberleigh, Chittlehampton, Chittlehamholt and Atherington are around two miles away. All provide something different, as well as places to eat and excellent countryside walks.

Local Towns & Beaches

Slightly further afield is the historic market town of Barnstaple, North Devon’s largest town and home to several shops, supermarkets and attractions, including a theatre, cinema, leisure centre and trampoline park. Torrington, Bideford and South Molton are also close by and well worth a visit.

Looking for a day at the beach? Westward Ho! Beach is only a short drive from The Big Barn and is perfect for a beach day with lifeguards on duty throughout the holiday season and a lovely arcade, as well as plenty of pubs and restaurants to keep everyone entertained and well fed. Other nearby beaches include Saunton Sands, Croyde and Woolacombe.

If you would prefer to spend your time exploring the local national parks, Dartmoor is around a 30 mile drive and Exmoor 15 miles away.

Directions

The Big Barn can easily be accessed in a number of ways. The house is just over a mile away from Umberleigh Railway station, which is one of the stations on the Tarka Line that runs from Exeter to Barnstaple. You can also access the house by following the B3227 from South Molton and then the A377 from Umberleigh.
